Everything You Need in a Wig Installation Kit
5 min read

The essentials
- Wig cap: flattens your hair and gives the adhesive a clean edge to sit against.
- Scalp protector: a barrier between adhesive and skin. Never skip this.
- Wig adhesive or glue: waterproof, sweat-resistant, made for lace.
- Melting spray: what actually makes the lace disappear.
- Elastic band: holds the perimeter while the lace sets.
- Edge control and a soft toothbrush: for laying baby hairs.
- Rat-tail comb: parting, plus the flat back is your pressing tool.
- Small sharp scissors and tweezers: cutting lace and plucking density.
- Adhesive remover: the difference between removing a unit and damaging your hairline.
Nice to have
Mousse for the crown, a light hair oil, a spray bottle, translucent powder to kill lace shine, a blow dryer with a cool setting, a wig stand and a silk bonnet.
What you can skip at first
You do not need three different glues, a full colour-matching kit or a heat cap. Start with one reliable adhesive, one melting spray and a good remover, then add products as you learn what your hairline likes.
Sensitive skin
Look for a latex-free, alcohol-free adhesive, always patch test behind your ear 24 hours ahead, and consider a glueless unit for daily wear with glue reserved for occasions.
Building your own
Our Build Your Kit tool walks you through choosing an adhesive, remover, spray, edge product and finishing tool in five steps — and bundles come with a 10% discount.
